Words That Don’t Exist In Spanish But Are Frequently Used

Lonche:  Lunch

At this point, you’re not even trying. You’re just slapping “o’s” and “a’s” at the end of words, all willy-nilly.  Lunch in Spanish is almuerzo.

Mopear: To mop

How many times has your mami told you that it’s time to mopear el piso because company is coming over? The next time she says this, tell her that you can’t do that, but you can limpiar el piso.

Carpeta: Carpet

This one is tricky. Carpeta IS a Spanish word; only instead of meaning carpet, it means file. So please stop telling people you’re going to vacuum the carpeta! The word you’re looking for is alfombra!
