If there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from our Xtina, it’s her classic, fire-engine red mouth—and she didn’t stray from that signature look on the premiere of The Voice last night.

In honor of our Afro-Latina week on Latina.com, I stopped by the Marie Robinson salon here in NYC, where Marie set out to show me—and my lovely model Quiana—how to lighten up Quiana’s gorgeous, natural hair color using a box of dye from the drugstore. Follow her steps to copy this fresh summer look!
1. Marie chose Clairol Natural Instincts Vibrant in 9A Light Cool Blonde ($9, clairol.com). Despite Quiana’s warm skin tone, Marie picked a cool, ashy blonde shade so that the color wouldn’t turn too brassy.

In our recent interview with Cuban American Bella Thorne, the Shake It Up! star revealed a little-known fact: she’s actually a natural dark blonde. Once we heard this, we had to find out exactly how to copy her unique color and Bella happily passed along her colorist’s name: Rona O’Connor, who co-owns Lukaro Salon in Los Angeles. “Bella and I wanted her to have a hair color that was fiery and fun, but also natural-looking,” Rona shared.
