Researchers, who surveyed 3,000 single and married mothers, found that women who had children out of wedlock were worse off by the time they reached their 40’s, even if they tied the knot along the way.

Immigrant children are the country’s fastest-growing group but their future and their ability to assimilate is in jeopardy unless something is done to improve their educational achievement, according to a new policy brief released by the Brookings Institute.

In its report, the independent think tank specifically calls the educational lag of Latino kids—who make up a quarter of school-age children in the U.S. and 5 million of whom have at least one undocumented parent—one of the biggest domestic problems facing the country.

Latino parents may have more control over their children’s health than realized. A new study suggests the activity levels of Hispanic children closely parallel those of their parents.

The study, conducted by researchers from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, tracked the physical activity levels of 80 Hispanic parents and their preschool-aged children.  Three months worth of data showed that Hispanic parents play a significant role in setting patterns of physical activity for their children.
