New Book Says American Expansion Was Built On Slave Trading In Cuba

Historian Stephen Chambers has written a new book that claims the United States profited indirectly from the Cuban slave trade for 60 years after it was outlawed in this country. So much so, that our entire economy and westward expansion during the 1800s was built upon it. In No God But Gain: The Untold Story of Cuban Slavery, the Monroe Doctrine, and the Making of the United States, Chambers says that not only did private, American investors profit from the Cuban slave trade, but our federal government protected and even fostered the industry through investments, trade and legislation such as The Monroe Doctrine.
