Last Friday, the Texas Board of Education—stacked with socially conservative Republicans by Governor Rick Perry—approved a new social studies curriculum that would essentially rewrite history in favor of a right-leaning political agenda.

After the vote, Mavis B. Knight, a Democrat from Dallas told the NY Times, “The social conservatives have perverted accurate history to fulfill their own agenda.”

Let me start off by saying I have loved me some George Lopez over the years. His sitcom (The George Lopez Show) was a breath of fresh air. Finally, a (sort of) normal, middle class Latino family was showcased on national television without a cholo, drug dealer, maid, single mother or gangbanger in sight!

Republican lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would take US citizenship away from babies born in the United States to undocumented immigrants. The concept of birthright citizenship is a fundamental tenet of the constitution of this country. But according to Rep. Gary Miller (R-Brea, CA), "You have many people coming to this country illegally. They come to this country and have babies. The children are citizens," Miller told the Whittier Daily News.

America Ferrera sat down with her best friend Amber Tamblyn for a refreshingly honest interview running now in Bust magazine, and boy did she open up. She dished with Tamblyn about everything from wearing "white face" for a Hollywood audition, to acting in her boyfriend's new film and how she feels about the end of Ugly Betty ("I love the show, but I so hope that at the end of that run, I'll have more to show for it than box sets"). It's a really great conversation between two women who obviously love and respect each other dearly.

Spanish Lawmaker Gaspar Llamazares recently awoke to find his image splashed across the world's newspapers. Unbeknown to him, the FBI used a picture they had found of him online to create an age-progressed image of Osama Bin Laden.

On Jan. 13, the Board of Education will hold a preliminary vote to determine whether or not they should adopt new standards for social studies texts in the state of Texas. In question is whether or not Cesar Chavez, along with all other Hispanics since the conquest of Mexico in the early 16th century, should be removed from textbooks.
