Ryan Gosling had everyone swooning on Sunday after delivering an incredible, heartwarming acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globes. He recognized his partner Eva Mendes, their daughters and the actress' late brother — and Mendes couldn't help but reciprocate the recognition.
On Monday, the Cuban American star took to Instagram to share a photo of Janelle Monae on the red carpet, dropping a subtle hint about Gosling's speech. “Obviously this wasn’t my favorite moment of the night, ” she captioned the image of the Hidden Figures actress. “But it was definitely my favorite style moment of the night. The stunning and talented @janellemonae is killing me with this look. So so so beautiful.”
The subtle acknowledgement is much to Mendes' style, who often keeps anything about her relationship with Gosling pretty private. The Canadian actor, on the other hand, is a little more open about his feelings, often displaying his love for the mother of his children in interviews and in last night's Golden Globe Awards speech. He won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, for his role in La La Land and dedicated the win to his family.
“You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain,” Gosling said. “While I was singing and dancing and playing piano … my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer.”
He continued, “If she hadn't have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you.”
The CIRCA Beauty creative director didn't attend the Golden Globes with her partner — according to People, she was at home with their daughters.
Mendes and Gosling have been together since 2011, after co-starring in the film The Place Beyond the Pines.
