Welcome to LATINA’s weekly roundup of the best new music. This week’s list features Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano’s explosive collaboration with Bizarrap and Maluma’s new album “The Love & Sex Tape.”
Also on the list, Sofía Reyes celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month with “24/7,” Ally Brooke goes EDM in Deorro’s “La Cita” and Bad Bunny marries his girlfriend in “Tití Me Preguntó.” Plus, María Becerra gets her revenge in “Ojala,” Sebastián Yatra charms in “TV” and rising Puerto Rican stars Alejo and Young Miko team up for “Poquito.”
Bizarrap and Villano Antillano, “BZRP Music Sessions #51”
Villano Antillano is the latest artist to step into Bizarrap’s music studio. The Puerto Rican rapper cuts loose on Bizarrap’s “BZRP Music Sessions #51.” Backed by the Argentine producer’s most colorful beats to date, Antillano unloads her fierce rhymes with a swift flow. “Llegó la G.O.A.T. / Llegó la cabra, so cabrona,” she spits into the microphone. At the halfway point, Bizarrap changes up the beat from electronica to hip-hop and Antillano seamlessly switches up her pace. She fires off lyrical punchline after lyrical punchline. Antillano is truly the future of Latin rap based on the way she can work in any genre. As a trans woman, Antillano has become a strong queer voice in reggaeton and trap music. This LGBTQ+ Pride Month gift is everything.
Maluma, “The Love & Sex Tape”
Maluma is turning up the heat on his new album. The Colombian superstar is going back to his “Dirty Boy” ways in “The Love & Sex Tape.” Maluma teamed up with Chencho Corleone for the hot-and-heavy banger “Nos Comemos Vivos.” Corleone is having a career revival from his recent features in Bad Bunny’s “Me Porto Bonito” and Rauw Alejandro’s “Desesperados.” Maluma also joins forces with Puerto Rican OGs Arcángel and De La Ghetto for the alluring love song “Tsunami.” The LP features his wet and wild banger “Mojando Asientos” with Colombian singer Feid as well. “More than a decade into my career, I was missing that essence that inspired me from the beginning and I felt a need to connect with the streets as well as fans who love the urban rhythm that has defined me from the start,” Maluma said in a statement. “That’s why I decided to make this album. ‘The Love & Sex Tape’ represents my duality and a 2022 version of my original sound.”
Sofía Reyes and The Change, “24/7”
Sofía Reyes has released the music video for “24/7” as a gift to her fans for LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Instead of appearing in the music video, the Mexican pop star gave full creative control to her close friends Nicole Zignago and Fernanda “Fer” Piña to film what they wanted. Zignago and Piña’s loving relationship is the star of the beautiful video. Reyes’ heartfelt love song featuring Dominican singer The Change soundtracks the happy couple’s cute moments together. “24/7” is featured on Reyes’ album “Mal De Amores.” She has scored a number of hits from the LP, including the song “Mal De Amores” with Becky G and “Marte” featuring María Becerra. Reyes recently teamed up with Train for their pop collaboration “Cleopatra.”
María Becerra, “Ojala”
Speaking of María Becerra, the rising Argentine pop star is keeping the hits coming. Becerra has had a big year after teaming up with Camila Cabello for the Latin pop bop “Hasta Los Dientes” and Sofía Reyes for the dazzling “Marte.” She is continuing to tease her next album “La Nena De Argentina.” In her new single “Ojala,” Becerra blends dembow beats with an R&B edge. Instead of feeling heartbroken after a breakup, she goes out to live her best life and find the company of other men. “Hopefully he suffers each time he sees me with him,” she sings in Spanish. In the music video, Becerra manifests that revenge fantasy by grinding in between two guys on the dance floor. “Ojala” is the chef’s kiss of kiss-off anthems.
Sebastián Yatra, “TV”
Sebastián Yatra is telling the story of puppy love — literally — in his new music video for “TV.” One dog is on a mission to find the love of his life in the Colombian heartthrob’s super cute video. “TV” is Yatra’s first taste of new music since the release of his album Dharma. He keeps the good vibes coming in this dreamy love song. Yatra sings about whisking away his lover to his native Medellín. He even gets a playful jab in about the love lives of his fellow Latin pop stars Rauw Alejandro and Camilo. Yatra will tour the U.S. this fall on his Dharma World Tour, which kicks off in late August.
Deorro and Ally Brooke, “La Cita”
Deorro is continuing to embrace his Latino roots through his EDM songs. For his new single “La Cita,” the Mexican-American producer teamed up with Ally Brooke. Deorro turns a sample of Swedish pop group Neiked’s song “Old School Love” into a dreamy house music anthem. Brooke beautifully translates the rush of the nostalgic lyrics into Spanish. “Prométemelo a mi, que si se va sentir, como old school love, old school love,” she sings. “‘La Cita’ was such a fun song to record and work on with Deorro,” Brooke told LATINA. “He is an amazing human and producer! The song itself is full of fun and takes you to a whole new place, which is why I am in love with it!” The song will be included on Deorro’s album “ORRO” that’s due July 1.
Alejo and Young Miko, “Poquito”
Alejo is continuing to have a breakout year. The Puerto Rican singer is most known for the viral hit “Pantysito” with Robi and Colombian singer Feid. Since dropping that song, Alejo has collaborated with Karol G in “Un Viaje” and Caleb Calloway in “Location.” For his new single “Poquito,” he teamed up with rising Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko. Backed by haunting reggaeton beats, Alejo and Young Miko play hard to get with each other. Young Miko shines in her flirty guest verse alongside Alejo’s passionate performance. This is the dreamy duet that we didn’t know we needed. As an openly queer artist, Young Miko has emerged as strong voice for the LGBTQ+ in reggaeton. Her sassy “105 Freestyle” song has recently gone viral on TikTok.
Bad Bunny, “Tití Me Preguntó”
Bad Bunny is breaking records with his latest album “Un Verano Sin Ti.” When the LP hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Bad Bunny became the first artist to send two all-Spanish language albums to the top of the chart. He also incredibly placed four Spanish-language songs inside the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart, including the mind-blowing banger “Tití Me Preguntó.” Bad Bunny pays homage to the Dominican Republic with influences of bachata music from Anthony Santos’ “No Te Puedo Olvidar” that explodes into a dembow anthem. In the wild music video, Bad Bunny ends up marrying his girlfriend, Gabriela Berlingeri. The trailer for the movie “Bullet Train” also dropped recently, and in the action-packed flick, Bad Bunny can be seen coming to blows with Brad Pitt.
