Welcome to LATINA’s weekly roundup of the best new music. This week’s list includes Becky G‘s regional Mexican music album, Feid‘s genre-bending LP, and new music from Bad Bunny.
Also on the list: Immasoul pushes Latin R&B forward, Villano Antillano comes through with an empowering rap anthem, and Paola Jara‘s fiery collaboration with Chiquis. Plus, Steve Aoki‘s wild club track with Danna Paola and Enrique Iglesias‘ love song featuring María Becerra.
Becky G and Ivan Cornejo, “2ndo Chance”
Becky G is embracing her Mexican roots in her new album “Esquinas.” The Mexican-American pop star embraces regional Mexican music with the genre’s Gen-Z wave of stars. Becky G previously teamed up with Peso Pluma for “Chanel” and Gabito Ballesteros in “La Nena.” We’ve heard her do corridos and she also dabbles in sierreño alongside Chicano star Ivan Cornejo in the nostalgic “2ndo Chance.” “I wouldn’t be where I am without my abuelitos, so [the album is] a love letter to them for sure,” she told LATINA in August.
Feid, “Ferxxo Edition”
Feid isn’t afraid of changing up his Medellín-made reggaeton sound in “Mor, No Le Temas A La Oscuridad.” In his new album, the Colombian superstar blends in Afrobeats alongside Rema in the “Bubalu” and elements of house music in the alluring “Luces De Tecno.” Feid also gets personal. He appears to open up about his rumored relationship with Karol G in the sentimental perreo of “Ferxxo Edition.” Feid sings about friends who turn into lovers over time. “People should know this is a special album,” he told LATINA. “I want expand my music. I’m just trying to see how we can keep growing.”
Bad Bunny, “Un Preview”
Ahead of his appearance at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, Bad Bunny released his new single “Un Preview.” The Puerto Rican superstar kicks off the reggaeton romp by saying in Spanish, “Come here, to show you a preview of something that’s coming later.” He sings about falling in love with a “vaquera” in the club. It’s fun and freaky preview of the next era in Bad Bunny’s music career. On October 5, he will deliver a “world premiere” performance at the award show, which will air on Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock.
Immasoul, “Drama”
Following her breakthrough EP “Amores Pasajeros,” Immasoul has released a new single. The Mexican singer-songwriter pushes her Latin R&B sound to new places in the thrilling “Drama.” The song blends in elements of reggaeton and electronica music in the mix. Immasoul is a soulful voice of reason and calm as she moves on from a toxic relationship. “‘Drama’ unfolds as a second ending, when tranquility replaces the emotional storms, and she moves forward, only to face his ego-driven return,” she told LATINA.
Villano Antillano, “Cuero”
Villano Antillano continues to solidify her place as one of today’s top Latin rappers. Following the tropical track “Reina De La Selva,” she returns to a hard-hitting hip-hop sound in “Cuero.” Backed by haunting trap beats, Antillano raps about bringing all the boys to the yard with her sex-positive bars. The empowering track was inspired by a conversation she had with Puerto Rican artist Baby Pau. “We sat together and chatted about a reality that we both face and know very well in such a crazy way: fetishization,” Villano wrote in an Instagram post.
Paola Jara and Chiquis, “Lo Que No Sirve, Estorba”
Two of regional Mexican music’s fiercest women are joining forces. The genre is also known as “música popular” in Colombia where Paola Jara reigns supreme. She teams up with Mexican-American star Chiquis for “Lo Que No Sirve, Estorba.” Colombia and Mexico collide in this fiery collaboration. Jara and Chiquis trade verses about finding their freedom after leaving controlling relationships. They each take turns lyrically ripping into their exes. “A shot of guaro, a shot of tequila, and sing this song at the top of your lungs,” Jara wrote in an Instagram post.
Steve Aoki and Danna Paola, “Paranoia”
The long-awaited collaboration by Danna Paola and Steve Aoki is finally here. Back in April, Aoki first previewed the song “Paranoia” featuring the Mexican pop star during a live performance in Las Vegas. “This is Crazyyyyy!” the DJ wrote in an Instagram post. “We know y’all have been dying for this one!!” The Latin tech house track arrives just in time for Halloween season. Paola sings in English and Spanish about a red-hot romance that is driving her wild. Aoki perfectly captures that rush in this bananas banger.
Enrique Iglesias and María Becerra, “Así Es La Vida”
Spanish pop icon Enrique Iglesias is back! He joined forces with Argentine singer María Becerra for their sultry collaboration “Así Es La Vida.” Iglesias blends bachata music with elements of pop. He sings with Becerra about overcoming life’s obstacles together and keeping their love alive. “Bachata is a rhythm that captured my heart from the moment I heard it,” Iglesias shared in a statement. The song is the first single from Iglesias’ upcoming album Final Vol. 2. On October 14, he kicks off The Trilogy Tour with Ricky Martin and Pitbull in Washington, D.C.
