Karol G dialed it back to the 2000s during her concert in Mexico City on Saturday night. The Colombian superstar brought out Mexican singer Anahí to perform an RBD classic. Both women joined forces to belt out “Sálvame” in front of a sold-out crowd at Arena Ciudad de México.
With her Bichota Reloaded Tour, Karol G has been making her way through Latin America. She usually brings out a surprise guest for each show that’s local to the country she’s in. It was nostalgia overload when she brought out Anahí for her tour’s Mexico City stop. Anahí performed in front of a live audience for the first time in 11 years. She channeled her “Rebelde” days as Mia Colucci with a star sticker on her forehead. Both Anahí and Karol G wore cowboys hats that were reminiscent of the ones that RBD wore in the “Sálvame” music video. This dream duet of “Sálvame” was everything. Anahí’s tears of joy to perform in front of a massive crowd again was beautiful to witness. Karol G later shed tears with Anahí.
After the concert, Karol G reflected about the moment she shared with Anahí on Instagram. “Having you there did not only make me happy; having you there made millions of us happy,” she wrote. “It was incredible to see how despite years of absence [from the stage], you still shine with such intensity. Seeing you again before the world, in the midst of tears and so many emotions, only confirmed that although they have been beautiful memories for years, the feelings of an entire generation are still alive and intact.”
In a comment to Karol G’s post, Anahí called their performance “a moment that I will carry in my soul forever.” She added, “Your powerful energy that fills the world with light! That’s why you’re in that place, because souls like yours deserve the whole world! Infinite thanks! I will never forget this.”
Karol G has one of the biggest songs in the world right now with her recent smash hit “Provenza.” She will be touring the U.S. again starting in September with the Strip Love Tour. In 2020, Anahí briefly reunited with RBD for the single “Siempre He Estado Aquí.” She also performed alongside Maite Perroni, Christian Chavez and Christopher Von Uckermann in a live streaming concert later that year.
