President Barack Obama has gathered a group of 15 Hispanic education and business leaders to help close the education gap that exists among Hispanics—only 50% of Latinos graduate from high school.

He announced Thursday the selection of the Hispanic Education Commission that includes Univision Networks president Cesar Conde and Francisco G. Cigarroa, chancellor of The University of Texas (UT) System.

Study Suggests Hispanic College Graduates Earn Less than Whites

A recent study by Georgetown University revealed that choosing the right major in college is especially important for Hispanics, who annually earn up to $36,000 less than white and Asian college graduates.

Even with a degree in mechanical engineering, with which Hispanics earn the highest salary at $70,000, graduates still received $13,000 less than their white counterparts.

2007 Arizona Immigration Law Sustained by Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court supported the state of Arizona in a 2007 law that will now penalize business for hiring undocumented workers, after a 5-3 majority agreed states had the right to take action against illegal immigrants.

“The Arizona regulation does not otherwise conflict with federal law,” wrote Chief Justice John Roberts, in court documents released today.
