Sunday night may not have brought Penélope Cruz a Golden Globe award for her supporting actress role in the musical Nine, but it did give her a chance to shine no less in Chopard jewels and glossy waves created by legendary Latino hairstylist Oribe. The look is easy to recreate: Spray Oribe's own Imperméable spray—or an anti-humidity spray—on hair, then use a curling iron to wind hair.

A few months ago, Latina.com reader Jamieg mentioned she was tired of the same old hairstyle. I can relate. Getting new ideas can be the hardest part of changing up your style when you’re in a rut. This is why I like to get inspiration from celebrities. Shakira always sports beautiful edgy hairstyles, model and TV host Camila Alves dons elegant curly updos and Susie Castillo finds simple ways to show off her tight curls. Once you’re inspired, take free reign to experiment with what works for you.

Want long, loose waves like Fergie and Avatar star Zoe Saldana? The trick is all in how you hold your curling iron. I always used to curl my hair the old-school way: by clamping a section of hair in a curling iron, then holding it horizontally while rolling it up toward my scalp. The way to get these modern loose waves is to first hold your curling iron vertically—so the tip of the iron faces the sky.

Next to a bad breakup, the start of a brand new year is the best excuse for a transformative new haircut. Case in point: Songstress and budding actress Christina Aguilera, who celebrated a new decade at Las Vegas hotspot Tao at the Venetian hotel. We are loving the shorn bob, but will still see Aguilera sporting her signature long platinum locks while she currently films the upcoming flick Burlesque with the legendary Cher.

I’m a little ashamed to admit that, until recently, I had never tried a Mirta de Perales product. I know, I know. I can't explain how this happened while growing up in a Latin household. I remember seeing Mirta de Perales commercials with the long-haired models flaunting their shiny locks on Univision, and was even surrounded by family members who lived by the famous Herbal Shampoo and Oil “N” treatment. But for some reason, I never ended up buying them.

In the winter time, hair can become dry; add the friction created when strands are rubbed against hats and scarves and you'll often have a nasty case of static cling. Here's an in-a-pinch way to calm the fly-aways: Rub a bit of hand lotion between your hands, and pass your fingers through your hair. This will tame locks, and add a touch of moisture without damaging your style.

I just saw the movie musical Nine last night. Never have I more wanted to tease my hair, put on a bustier and dance in front of a mirror then after those credits rolled! What performances from such talented chicas—specifically from Oscar winner Penelope Cruz. But being the beauty junkie that I am, I more than noticed how important a role hair played in the film.
