Work It Out

istockphoto.com

I'm a bad pregnant lady; I haven't worked out one bit the entire 18 weeks of this pregnancy. I mean, sure, I run around with Dessa and pick up all 23lbs of her daily but I don't workout-workout. Everywhere I turn "they" say it's so important to stay fit and healthy during your pregnancy. Try yoga. Go for a walk. Go swimming. Apparently the people who write these things have two things going for them that are non-existent in my life—energy and time. I'm pretty much useless after a regular 9-5 day. I come home, have dinner, put Dessa to bed and usually pass out with her. Did I mention her bedtime is between 7-8pm? So no nightly workouts. And please, don't even mention the possibility of early morning workouts.

I do feel a little bit guilty about it, though, because with my first pregnancy I was pretty active. OK, I did nothing my first trimester and nothing the last trimester but I had a solid second. This was my workout routine last time: 3 times a week (fine, maybe more like twice a week) I'd find a good TV show (think Lost or Project Runway), pull out my exercise ball and my 5lb weights and curl and press and all that good stuff. I was pretty darn proud of myself. I even tried the yoga videos but with little success since they left me snoozing half way through.

My first trimester is lost but I've still got a little over 20 weeks to go so maybe I'll start walking around the office at lunch. Or maybe I'll look into that gym membership I always think about. Better yet, I'll keep stuffing my face, worry about the weight later and just stick to keigel exercises (they count, right?).
