How many times have you heard that Michelle Rodriguez is one crazy broad? Well, you can imagine what went through my mind as I hopped on a plane to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, a couple of days ago to catch up with the New Jersey-reared, Dominican/Puerto Rican actress to talk about her current and upcoming projects including Lost, the fourth installment of Fast & Furious, James Cameron’s Avatar, and Tropico de Sangre, an indie about the life of Dominican martyr Minerva Mirabal, which she also co-produced. What I found was a really smart, down to earth girl (borderline nerd) who loves to talk about nanotechnology, aliens, philosophy, and politics.

Over the course of our almost four-hour convo at a typical Dominican food restaurant on the malecon, she said to me: “Babe, the media will never understand me.” Good thing we’re trying to change that.
