Adamari López and her family were hit by some devastating news this weekend. The Mira Quién Baila alum’s beloved mother died Sunday morning, after a long battle against cancer, according to HuffPost Voces.
Vidalina Torres Montalvo de López, who had fought off cancer several times before, passed away from leukemia at the Centro Médico de Río Piedras in her native Puerto Rico. The death was confirmed by the actress’ father and later by the actress’ manager Cecyl Szomstein, who released a statement expressing the López family’s gratitude for any and all support in this extremely difficult time.
“To friends in the media, we ask that you gave them [López’s family] the space that they need at this moment, in order to be with family and close friends,” read part of Szomstein’s statement. “Thanks again for your concern for Adamari and for all the love that you give her everyday.”
41-year-old López has previously opened up about her mother’s illness in an exclusive interview with HuffPost Voces. In the interview, the Boricua actress said Vidalina had Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymphatic system – part of the immune system. López added that her mother was later diagnosed with leukemia due to the chemotherapy treatment she received. The actress herself is a cancer survivor; López was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago.
Plans to move Vidalina’s body to Funeraria Carrasco-López in Humacao, Puerto Rico, are set to take place today.
Our thoughts are with López and her family.
