Timothy Heller, the accuser, also a singer, Tweeted a statement on Monday, detailing the sexual assault she endured by her “best friend,” and identifying Martinez as her abuser.

“When I wrote this story about my assault, I initially wasn’t going to make the abuser. But I think it’s important for you all to know this is about Melanie Martinez,” she wrote.

Heller began her statement by writing, “I have kept this secret for years, convincing myself that it wasn’t a big deal and I wasn’t hurt by it. The thought of accepting that my best friend raped me seems insane.”

She continued, “The power she had over me, grew me into having a very hard time saying no to her. I would do almost anything for her.”

Heller then detailed a two-night sleepover during which the sexual assault occurred.

“One night during a sleepover, she became increasingly interested in my sexual preferences. I was obviously uncomfortable, but she was my best friend so I tried to be open about it. She began asking me while in bed if I would have sex with her. It went on for hours.”

According to Heller, she was able to ward off Martinez’s advances that first night, despite being kept awake all night by them.

She said the second night, Martinez convinced her to smoke marijuana and then “the same conversation began to happen.”

Heller says she kept saying no, that she had a boyfriend who would be upset, that she needed to sleep. “I said every form of no I could think of.”

But allegedly, Heller’s reaction didn’t have an effect on Martinez who “was not giving up. If she had gotten the hint, she didn’t care.”

Of the assault, Heller described being touched by Martinez as she lay trying to fall asleep.

“She began touching my arm. I allowed this to happen. Maybe she’d give up….She began talking about the appearance of my boobs and begged to JUST touch them. I was so exhausted and confused and high and belittled I just allowed it to happen. This led to her touching the rest of me. I never said yes. I said no repeatedly. But she used her power over me, and broke me down. Just so there is no confusion, I was molested by my best friend.”

Heller said Martinez “performed oral sex” on her and that she “was penetrated with a sex toy without being asked.” She said that while she didn’t “scream at” Martinez or “force her off of me” she had still said no.

Ultimately, Heller said the pair’s friendship ended when Martinez “didn’t have time for me anymore.” And her message behind coming forward is clear, “Best friends can rape best friends. Friendship does not equal consent.”

Martinez, who was a contestant on Season 3 of the reality singing competition and released her debut album, "Cry Baby" in 2015, responded to the allegations early Tuesday morning. She Tweeted: "I am horrified and saddened by the statements and story told tonight by Timothy Heller. What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time."

She added, "She never said no to what we chose to do together. And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always."
