Justin Quiles went all out to get his fans ready for Premios Juventud over the weekend. The reggaeton star hosted the McDonald's Summer Splash Party in Miami where fans were not only treated to a night of music and fun but also a lounge featuring goodies from the Golden Arches.
We caught up with the Connecticut native and discuss many important topics including Justin's dream McDonald's food item, working with Nicky Jam, and his dream summer playlist.
Justin Quiles and McDonald's make such a great pair! Do you have a favorite McDonalds story from your youth?
Yes! It was in Puerto Rico when I was a teenager. I was with my friends and we went to a McDonald’s restaurant nearby. It was late at night and the restaurant was closed; only the drive-thru was open, but we didn’t have a car. We wanted McDonald’s so bad that we walked up to the drive-thru window. We thought we might get in trouble but no, everyone was so nice and we ate in the parking lot.
Do you have a go-to combo when you go to McDonald's or do you always try different things?
I try different things, but the Big Mac has always been my favorite. I always add bacon and have it with fries, of course! This summer, the new McCafé Cold Brew Frappé is my go-to drink; it helps me stay refreshed, especially this weekend that I’m in sunny Miami for Premios Juventud.
If you could create your dream McDonald's menu item or combo, what would it consist of?
That’s a tough one! I think my dream menu item would be the Vanilla Cone with the World Famous Fries on top.
If you could make a playlist for the summer, what songs would you include?
Una Vaina Loca, Manuel Turizo con Ozuna
Ambiente, J Balvin
La Player, Zion y Lennox
Attention, Charlie Puth
Perfect, Ed Sheeran
And of course, No Quiero Amarte
We're obsessed with your song with Nicky Jam! Tell us about how that collaboration came together.
I was in Medellín to work on something else with Nicky Jam, and record “Tu y Yo” with Valentino separately. When Nicky Jam listened to what I was working on with Valentino, he liked it so much that he said “yo me voy a montar ahí también con ustedes” (I’m going to join you guys too!). It was awesome! We wrote the lyric all three together and recorded it at Nicky Jam’s studio in Medellín. Now, with Nicky Jam, we’re getting ready to debut a new song that’s part of the second trilogy. So stay tuned!
You've collaborated with so many of our favorite artists. Is there anyone you'd like to collaborate with that you haven't already?
Daddy Yankee. We all grew up listening to his music and after all these years he continues to be a role model for those of us that are in the same music genre of reggaeton. We know each other and I’d love to work with him!
