Simon Cowell: 'We Have to Find a Role' for Mariah Carey on 'The X Factor'

For months now, the web has been buzzing with rumors that Mimi would be joining her good friend, Simon Cowell on his new reality competition (which is set to debut on FOX on September 21st). "We have to find a role for her. I'm a huge fan of hers – not just as an artist, but as a person, and I love her to death," he said. 

Cowell, who notes that Mariah has "wanted to be involved in the show from day one," says that he's worried about having so many big personalities on the show. "We just can't shut Paula {Abdul} and Nicole {Scherzinger} up," he joked. "Add Mariah into the mix as well and you won't even have anyone singing."

At the Television Critics Association Press Tour over the weekend, Cowell told TV reporters that he had originally wanted Mimi to join the show as a judge. "But then she selfishly got pregnant which is why she didn't end up as a judge," he explains.
