What is your favorite fall trend?

Fall is one of my favorite fashion seasons. I love dressing and designing for the fall because there is so much fun and creativity you can have with layering, textures, and prints. It's hard to choose my favorite fall trend, but this season I'm especially excited about the new styles in denim. I'm loving all the special details we are seeing in jeans, so I've introduced a new assortment in my Fall '17 collection for Macy's with styles featuring embroidery, studs, and even ombre.

Name one piece from your collection you can't see yourself without?

Honestly, I think I would have to say my new Fall '17 denim styles. I just love how versatile the assortment is. From solid black to dark wash blues with intricate details, the styles are easy to pair with heels for a more dressed up look, or with flats for the weekends.

How does your culture influence your design process?

I'm very proud of my Hispanic heritage and have always incorporated the rich culture of Mexico into everything I've done throughout my music and fashion careers. Even though I currently live in the US, it's important to me that I never forget where I'm from and that my work reflects who I am. When it comes to designing my collection for Macy's, I always take notes from the vibrant patterns and colors of Mexico and incorporate them into my collection. This season, you will see a lot of wine hues and bold floral patterns against dark backgrounds to really make the pieces pop.

If you could say goodbye to one trend, what would it be?

Personally, I just can't get into the oversized/boyfriend blazer. I love when women embrace their feminine silhouettes and I'm seeing so many oversized blazers and suits that cover that up. Don't get me wrong, some women can pull it off and look beautiful, but it's just not for me.

Who would you say is your style inspiration?

I love how trends are constantly changing from season to season, so I really take note on what the people are wearing on the streets and how that is always evolving, as well as on what my friends are loving. I also love going back to Mexico and drawing inspiration from what women are loving there and I'm constantly looking for ways to fuse the different trends together in my Thalia Sodi for Macy's collection.

What advice would you give women who want to look fashionable but don't want to break the bank?

Trends are always changing. I don't ever suggest to invest in pieces that are "in" at the moment; rather, really look to investing in those classic items that will never go out of style, like a great fitted blazer or pair of classic pumps that you can wear with anything. When designing my line with Macy's, it was really important for me that the collection not only be stylish and high quality, but also a great value. I want to make women feel beautiful and confident, while not breaking the bank."

What's one piece every woman should splurge on this season?

A great moto jacket! As the temperatures start dropping, it’s time to start layering. I say invest in a leather style or one with unique detailing that you can wear with anything. The best part is when you invest in a piece that you love and has that something special, you can keep the rest of your outfit simple and let it steal the show.
