When I discovered this tiny hole in Hell’s kitchen I was super excited that I could get a bite of these little crescent shaped treats whenever I craved some Latin flavor. Although every country has their own twist on their local empanadas and at this bistro, they provide you with a variety diverse enough to give you a taste of every country!
My favorites are the Viagra ($3) filled with seafood (I’m not just saying that because of the cheeky name either), the Tuna Jalapeno ($2.50) that speaks for itself, and the shredded chicken ($2.50) that has all white meat and comes with a yummy sofrito sauce. If you have a sweet tooth their dessert empanadas, like sweet plantain and cheese ($2.50), is sure to give you your fix. If you don’t want to fill up on empanadas alone, they’ve also expanded their menu to included a few salads, soups, and select dishes that all go great with a Colombian soda or natural fruit shake.
With such economical prices and delicious food, Empanada Mama makes it easy to understand how they have become every locals go-to spot for a twist on a great Latin American classic.
