Another Woman Dies From Brazilian Butt Lift in Miami

In 2015, Australian native Evita Sarmonikas traveled to Mexicali for a Brazilian butt lift which promised to gift her the plump behind she always wanted. Instead, the procedure killed her due to a pulmonary embolism, as well as incomplete pre-surgery paperwork.

Now, 25-year-old Ranika Hall has become the second person to die from the same surgery. The Missouri native traveled to Miami for the procedure, where she hoped to get her pre-baby body back. Her mother, Nicole Hall, as well as her brothers and sisters reportedly tried to talk her out of it. The procedure took place at Eres Plastic Surgery in Hialeah, where Heather Meadows also died at age 29 from the same surgery.

At 10 p.m. on Thursday, Hall lost consciousness and stopped breathing, and later died. Hall's mother explained that she is still "looking for answers" and has not yet fully processed the tragedy. She did, however create a GoFundMe page to cover the expenses of bringing her daughter home for a proper burial. “My beautiful daughter went to Miami, Fl to have a high profile procedure done which was take her fatty tissue out her stomach and placed elsewhere. My baby left Wednesday 3/15/17 perfectly fine and health which was the last time i talked to her and seen her,” she wrote on the campaign.

The plastic surgery center released a statement expressing their deepest condolences for the family's loss. “Dr. Daniel Calva and Eres Plastic Surgery are deeply saddened by what has occurred and offer their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the statement read.
