Did you know that over half of the population of the Bronx is Latino? The Boogie Down Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough, is overflowing with culture, history, and joy. Whether you’ve eaten there, danced there, or lived there, we can all attest to the significance of this place for our community.
This summer, we sent photographer Flordalis Espinal to capture a day in the Bronx. Espinal, whose photo essay on Washington Heights evoked a nostalgia for hot Uptown summers, was born and raised in the Bronx. Her parents immigrated from the Dominican Republic as teenagers and met in the Bronx. Still living there, Flordalis shares her home with us through her eyes.
